Books and Holy Cards. They seem to present great storage problems for Catholics. How do we best organize them? With books, the options are limitless (and dare I say, sometimes even involve storing some in boxes when space is an issue).Â
But Holy Cards are a bit easier. Hundreds of holy cards are much more manageable than hundreds of books. Even so, I've got them tucked into books, my wallet, and in various catchalls around my home.Â
It recently occurred to me that holy cards could be put in acrylic frames so that both the front and the back side of the card are visible. I've been looking for just the right thing for months and finally found these frames that fit the bill. They are two slabs of clear acrylic held together with simple magnets, which make it easy to switch out holy cards depending on the liturgical season or special private devotions. The frame also protects the cards from wear and tear, unlike just hanging them on the fridge.
The other great aspect about these floating frames is that they can accommodate various sizes, or cards could be cut down to fill the whole block. The magnets still work to keep the blocks together through paper.
Another idea for storing holy cards are these acrylic catchalls that allow many cards to be stored at once, while also remaining visible. They look great on a nightstand or desk. The larger one has a clear lid and the smaller has space to slide in a card or photo.
My husband loves to pray with holy cards. He has some from priests' ordinations, funerals, weddings, and special devotions and they are sweetly well-worn. They are always in little piles around the house and I'll find him early in the morning with certain cards spread out from his prayer.
An easy and attractive means of corralling them makes perfect sense. He especially loves this one with a slide-in photo lid.
A tray or small bowl is another great way to put holy cards together and leave on a desk or table for regular use.Â
The tray and catchalls would also work well to keep Christmas cards from friends and family received from the prior year.Â
We'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions for storing or using holy cards in your home.
